Mechi highway shut down for release of Bhattarai’s car vandals

KATHMANDU: Hundreds of people who reached to Pathibhara via the Mechi highway have been stuck since this morning owing to a strike called by the Joint Struggle Committee for the Re-naming of State 1 in protest of the name Koshi State.

Traffic has been halted in the Kabeli, Ganesh Chowk sector of the Taplejung-Panchthar portion of the Mechi highway since the morning due to the non-operation of transport vehicles.
According to the struggle committee, the highway was stopped to demand the release of two identity activists who were held by police on allegations of flashing a black flag to Yogesh Bhattarai, who visited home district Taplejung last Saturday, and of vandalizing a car.
The Struggle Committee, on Mangsir 11 (Nov 27), has accused the police of falsely arresting and charging Yanguwarak-Ghatiringe, Vivinkalingwa and Anandakalingwa residents sof Pathibhara, affiliated with the identification side, with baseless allegations
They were detained for disturbing the peace, according to the police.
