15 people including Durga Prasai’s personal secretary under police custody

KATHMANDU: Vinanjaya Thapa, the private secretary of doctor Durga Prasai, has also been detained.

During a demonstration in Gaushala on Monday, police detained 15 persons for pelting stones at them.

Vinanjaya Thapa, Prasai’s personal secretary, is also among those arrested, according to SP Kumodh Dhungel of District Police Complex Kathmandu. Police have detained 15 persons, including him.

Hari Karki, the chairman of the organization department and a member of the Durga Prasai campaign, also stated that the personal secretary Thapa was detained by the police. According to Thapa, the police arrested and detained him following the demonstration.

Previously, the authorities had detained religious guru Srinivasa Acharya for making provocative comments. He reached at the protest with a trident.

Bhojraj Timalsina, Nitesh Bastola, Hari Bisunkhe, Deepak Goswami, Devendra Karki, Bhuwan Pariyar, Yadunath Sigdel, Raju Tamang, U Bahadur Rijal, Yuvin Shrestha, Sujan Khadka, Mehrman Basnet and Dipesh Khadka are in police custody.

SP Dhungel said that it has not been decided whether to prosecute them all or not.

Prasai, a medical professional, has been demonstrating at various places in Kathmandu since Mangsir 7 (Nov 23).

There was also a clash with the police during the demonstration at Gaushala on Monday.

The police fired tear gas to disperse the crowd. The protesters pelted stones at the police. The complex has informed that 38 people including the police were injured.
