KATHMANDU: A Nepalese youth has died in Portugal after being stabbed by his own friend.

Dhan Bahadur Chhetri, 36, of Kushma Municipality-13, Khaula, Parbat, died during treatment after being critically injured by a stab wound.

Chhetri died on Thursday while undergoing treatment at Literol Alentezano Hospital in Santiago, according to Umesh Khadka, Chair of the Non-Resident Nepali Association of Portugal.

According to Khadka, the deceased Chhetri’s body was held in the same hospital’s morgue, and his family was informed of his death.

Chhetri, who resides in Boavista, Odemira, Portugal, was stabbed last Tuesday night by Lokendra Gurung, 30, of Putalibazar-12 Pelkachaur, Syangja, who stayed with him.

Gurung stabbed Chhetri while inebriated, according to Makar Bahadur Hamal, an unpaid consul in Portugal.

Gurung, who escaped after being stabbed, has been arrested by the police and is being investigated.

Chhetri and Gurung reached Portugal eight months ago in connection with foreign employment.

Both of them were working in an agricultural company in Odemira.
