Supreme Court denies interim order on TikTok ban

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has refused to stay the government’s decision to ban TikTok.
Justice Binod Sharma’s bench has declined to issue an interim order halting the government’s decision to ban TikTok, as requested by the writ petitioner.
The cabinet, in its meeting on Kartik 27 (Nov 13), decided to ban TikTok in Nepal.
Over 10 petitions were filed in the Supreme Court by stakeholders and legal practitioners, contending that the government’s decision infringed upon the freedom of expression.
The writ was heard in the Supreme Court on Tuesday. At the same time, the bench of Judge Sharma has demanded a written answer from the government about the reason for deciding to ban Tik Tok.
The Supreme Court has also ordered to submit this case for full hearing on Mangsir 19 (Dec 5).
