Nepal’s tennis player Sunira wons silver medal in Bangladesh tournament

KATHMANDU: Nepalese tennis player Sunira Thapa has won silver in Circuit-1 of World Tennis Tour Junior, GR-V in Dhaka, Bangladesh on Friday.
Sunira lost 6-3, 6-0 to India’s Elina Farid in the girls’ singles final at the Sheikh Jamal National Tennis Complex in Dhaka.
The Bangladesh Tennis Association hosted a competition with 27 players. Sunira received a first-round bye and advanced to the pre-quarterfinals.
Sunira, who overcame India’s Garugutti Vennela Reddy in the pre-quarterfinals 7-5 and 7-6, defeated India’s Princi Mandagalla in the quarterfinals 6-4 and 6-4.
In the semi-finals, Sunira registered a comfortable 6-3 and 6-0 victory over India’s Devansi Gohil and made it to the finals.
Nepalese competitors included Aisha Dolkar Gurung, Rajveer Pradhan, and Pranab Manandhar. All three athletes were denied medals.
The Nepali squad will also compete in Circuit 2 of this competition, which begins on Monday. Circuit-2 will take place at Bangladesh’s Rajshahi.
