Tihar festival of flowers begins, farmers busy picking flowers (photos)

KATHMANDU: Tihar, the flower festival, has begun. The blooming sayapatri (marigold) and makhamali (globe amaranth) have contributed a distinctive charm to the house.

On Tihar, hundred-petal velvet flowers are necessary for everything from beautifying the house to worshiping crows, dogs, cows, and brothers.

Locals in Kathmandu’s Ichangu district have grown commercial flowers such as sayapatri-petal gyan thunga.

Farmers appear to be very busy collecting flowers recently.
