KATHMANDU: In a span of five days, the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has reported the sale of 43,000 gold and silver coins.
The Mint Division, located in Babarmahal, Kathmandu, initiated the sale of these coins on Sunday, aligning with the celebration of Dhanteras, marking the onset of the Tihar festival.
Thaneshwar Acharya, the Head of the Mint Division, disclosed that the period from Sunday to Thursday witnessed the successful sale of the specified quantity of gold and silver coins.
The NRB has offered gold coins in denominations of 10 grams, 5 grams, and 2.5 grams, along with silver coins in 10 grams and 25 grams (medallions).
The pricing strategy involves adding the manufacturing cost to the prevailing market rates of gold and silver.
Considering the tradition of keeping gold and silver coins while worshiping goddess Laxmi on Dhanteras, the NRB strategically timed the sale to coincide with the Tihar festivities.
Officials from the NRB have noted a higher demand for gold and silver coins this year compared to previous years.
