Preparations to welcome Tihar (photos)
People are ready to welcome Tihar.

KATHMANDU: Tihar, Nepal’s second major festival, looks to have arrived in our home and yard, judging by the marigold and velvet garlands for sale in the market.
Tihar is also known as “The Festival of Lights” and”Festival of Flowers”, as the houses are illuminated with additional lights and adorned with garlands.
The five-day festival of lights honors Yama, the god of death, and celebrates or prays for wealth to Goddess Laxmi.
In addition, each day is dedicated to a different religious figure, such as a cow, crow, or dog, which represents a sacred and unique link between humans, god, and animals.
Playing Deusi-Bhailo, and worshiping different animals and birds as parts of nature are important aspects of this festival.
This cheerful festival brings fervor, enthusiasm, and social gatherings that light up the mood. Deusi and Bhailo activities, for example, bonding over crackers, festive food, games, and much more.
Photos of Goddess Laxmi being worshiped during Tihar, lamps, lights, and colourful powders worn on Bhai Tika appear to increase the market’s bustling with the purchase and sale of all these things.
