SEOUL: South Korea’s first cold wave alerts in this year’s autumn season were issued on Monday in northern Seoul and the central inland region, Yonhap news agency said citing the weather agency.

Cold wave alerts, which are issued when the daily low temperature is expected to fall by 10 degrees Celsius or more compared to the previous day, would take effect at 9 p.m. local time in northern Seoul and other areas in Gyeonggi, Gangwon, North Chungcheong and North Gyeongsang provinces.

Cold wave warnings, which are given for a temperature difference of 15 degrees Celsius or more, would take effect from 9 p.m. local time for some mountainous areas of Gangwon and North Gyeongsang provinces.

It rained for the second day on Monday, prompting the continental high pressure to expand in the country’s northwest region and spread a cold wind in the afternoon.

Tuesday’s morning low temperatures across the country were forecast to range from 1 degree Celsius to 12 degrees Celsius, compared to a range of 15 degrees Celsius and 21 degrees Celsius on Monday.
