KATHMANDU: The Afghan government is going to build a shelter for refugees who have returned home.

The interim government of Afghanistan has announced the construction of shelters due to the increase in the number of refugees returning from neighboring Pakistan.

Acting Minister for Refugees and Repatriation Khalil-ur-Rahman Haqqani directed the construction of shelters during his recent visit to the Torkham crossing point on the border with Pakistan.

In the past few days, more than 150,000 Afghan refugees have returned home from Pakistan via Torkham.

More than 200,000 Afghan refugees, most of them through the border town of Torkham and some through Spinboldum and other crossing points, have returned to their homeland in the past month.

Pakistan has reportedly decided to send 1.7 million undocumented Afghan refugees back to their homeland after decades in the host country. While the Afghan administration has asked Islamabad to reconsider the decision.
