KATHMANDU: On Thursday, southern parts of the United Kingdom faced the fury of Storm Ciaran, leading to power outages that left thousands of homes in the dark.

The severe weather conditions, including strong winds and heavy rainfall, prompted the closure of thousands of schools in regions like Devon, Cornwall, Sussex, Surrey, and the Channel Islands.

Over 300 schools in southern England suspended classes due to concerns about potential life-threatening situations.

Some schools are expected to remain closed today.

In Jersey, approximately 40 individuals were displaced from their homes due to storm-related damage, with wind gusts reaching speeds of 104 miles per hour (167 kilometers per hour) on the island. The government has advised locals to stay indoors until the storm subsides.

Storm Ciaran has set a new record for the lowest sea level pressure recorded in England and Wales during the month of November.
