KATHMANDU: The National Vitamin ‘A’ Program is underway for this year, taking place today and tomorrow.
As reported by the Family Welfare Division, operating under the Department of Health Services, this campaign will distribute vitamin ‘A’ capsules to approximately 3.2 million children aged between 6 and 59 months.
Additionally, over 2.9 million children, aged 1 to 5 years, will receive anti-worm medication during this two-day initiative.
Typically, the government conducts this program biannually, with the first phase held on the 2nd and 3rd of Kartik and the second phase on the 6th and 7th of Baisakh.
However, this year, the first phase has been rescheduled to the 17th and 18th of Kartik due to the Dashain festival.
Dr. Viveklal Karna, the head of the division, has stated that children can receive their vitamin ‘A’ and deworming medicines at nearby vaccination centers.
The government initiated the National Vitamin ‘A’ Program in 2050 and began distributing deworming medicine in 2056.
Health volunteers and workers from across the country are actively participating in this crucial health campaign.
