SEOUL: Two police officers were stabbed by a man on Tuesday in front of the main gate of the defense ministry compound in central Seoul, where the presidential office is also housed, according to Yonhap news agency.

The 77-year-old man, only identified with his surname Park, pulled a knife from his bag and stabbed two policemen at about 1:20 p.m. local time (0420 GMT) when the police officers told him to rapidly move past the compound.

The two officers were wounded and taken to a hospital, with one stabbed in the abdomen and the other in the left arm.

Park was arrested on the scene on charges of obstructing the execution of special official duties.
