KATHMANDU: The first underwater tunnel in South Asia has been completed.

The underwater tunnel in Bangladesh has been operational for transportation since Saturday.

The tunnel was inaugurated by Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Hasina and Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen also attended the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel launching event.

The tunnel, which is around 242 kilometers southeast of Dhaka, was created with a combined investment from the Bangladesh and Chinese governments.

Residents in Bangladesh believe that this is a fantastic chance for both business and tourism. According to local Anand Barua, this is an opportunity for China and Bangladesh to expand their relations.

The tunnel will link the projected Asian Highway with the Dhaka-Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar route. The distance between Chattogram and the southern coastal city of Cox’s Bazar will be cut by 40 kilometers.

He stated that China is constantly assisting Bangladesh.
