Vitamin ‘A’ being given to children on Nov 3 & 4
During the two-day campaign, around 32 lakh infants aged 6 to 59 months would be given vitamin 'A' capsules, according to the department's head, Dr. Bibek Karna Lal.
KATHMANDU: The government is going to conduct this year’s national vitamin ‘A’ program on Kartik 17 and 18 (Nov 3 & 4).
The government has been running the program twice a year, with the first part taking place on Kartik 2 and 3 and the second on Baisakh 6 and 7 (April 19 & 20).
However, due to Dashain this year, the Family Welfare Division of the Department of Health Services has planned the first phase of the program for Kartik 17 and 18 (Nov 3 & 4).
During the two-day campaign, around 32 lakh infants aged 6 to 59 months would be given vitamin ‘A’ capsules, according to the department’s head, Dr. Bibek Karna Lal.
Similarly, around 2.9 million youngsters aged one to five years would be given deworming medication.
Children can be given vitamin ‘A’ and deworming medication by taking them to a vaccination center near their house.
Since 2050, the government has sponsored the National Vitamin A program to lower the risk of health issues and malnutrition in children. Roundworm treatment began in 2056.
Dr. Lal informed that 52,000 health volunteers and 15,000 health workers will be mobilized in this program.
The Ministry of Health has already sent a circular to the Ministries of Social Development under the seven state governments and municipal levels to ensure the success of the Vitamin ‘A’ program.
