KATHMANDU: Manandhar society and youth activists held a pressure demonstration in favor of Bharti Manandhar today in Maitighar against the amnesty of Regal Dhakal by the President.

Raising slogans demanding the President’s resignation, they held a peaceful rally and protest from Maitighar Mandala to Baneshwor.

On the occasion of Constitution Day, women’s rights campaigners demanded the re-incarceration of Yograj Dhakal, who had been pardoned by the government.

Women’s rights campaigners protested on Wednesday, demanding that the amnesty be reinstated and that he be imprisoned.

Bharti Manandhar, the wife of the deceased, is on hunger-strike in Maitighar, saying that he was granted parole. They held a peaceful vigil to demand that Chetan Manandhar’s spirit be allowed to rest in peace.

Yograj Dhakal (Regal), who was condemned to life in jail for murdering a person by striking a Khuda (Chhoper or a kind of Knife) at the Nepalgunj market, was released by the government on Constitution Day. Regal was guilty of murdering Chetan Manandhar of Nepalgunj on Ashar 28, 2072 ( 3 July 2015).

In the instance of Regal, the Supreme Court has already issued a show cause order in the name of the government and the President’s Office.

The occurrence, according to women’s rights activist Anju KC Shrestha, who began the movement, is a breach of the constitution. She stated that it is a felony for the government to provide amnesty after a murder in broad daylight.

Similarly, another activist Kalpana Basnet said that Bharti should get justice and violence against women should not be done.

She said that amnesty should be returned. She said that the government has attacked women.

The protestors said Bharati should get justice. They has also questioned saying that this is what freedom is.

The protestors protested with placards such as obey the rule of law, protect our lives, government, stop respecting criminals, jail the heinous criminal Regal, etc.
