KATHMANDU: In the last nine months, Nepal has drawn approximately 700,000 foreign tourists to its magnificent scenery.

According to Immigration Department data, 692,372 tourists arrived in Nepal by air routes during the current fiscal year, 2023.

According to the Nepal Tourism Board, Nepal experienced an astonishing influx of 91,012 tourists in September alone, a significant rise over the 58,314 international tourists recorded during the same period the previous year.

To put this in context, Nepal only received 92,604 travelers in 2019, demonstrating the tremendous increase in recent tourism figures.

The Nepal Tourism Board expects the number of foreign tourists to climb further in the coming months.

Maniraj Lamichhane, Director of the Board, stated that tourist arrivals have been steadily increasing in recent months.

According to the most recent numbers, visitor arrivals have surpassed 90.28 percent of pre-COVID-19 levels.

The Nepalese government has set an ambitious aim of recruiting one million foreign tourists by 2023, and a recent rise in tourist arrivals suggests that goal may be within reach.

The majority of tourists visiting in Sept were from India, with 28,642 totaling 28,642, followed by China with 8,174.

The United States came in third with 7,364 visitors, followed by Bangladesh with 3,716.

Other visitors came from Australia, the United Kingdom, Sri Lanka, Germany, South Korea, and Israel.
