KATHMANDU: The sale and distribution of alcohol and tobacco products to children and students wearing school uniforms has been prohibited in Hermi, which is located in Ward 3 of Gorkha’s Siranchowk Rural Municipality.

In Hermi, children under the age of 16 are not permitted to sell cigarettes, tobacco, or alcoholic beverages.

Ward Chair Jagdishwar Dhakal announced that the resolution to prohibit the sale and distribution of smoking and intoxicated items to students in the ward has been implemented.

“There is an arrangement in the ward that no one can even sell and distribute alcohol from 6 am to 6 pm,” he stated, ‘Even when there is a discount for sales and distribution, a rule has been implemented that children and students in school uniforms cannot be sold.”

Ward Chair Dhakal stated that the ward office had met and resolved to tighten restrictions on the sale and distribution of liquor within the ward. He stated that the rules established by the ward office would be severely enforced.

A punishment of $500 will be imposed on anyone found selling or distributing alcohol or tobacco goods in violation of the judgment.

Recently, once it was discovered that the use of alcohol and tobacco among the schoolgirls was increasing, the ward office outlawed the sale and distribution of alcohol in order to curb it.

Similarly, the ward office has advised company owners who are operating without a permit within the ward to do so only after registering the required store.
