KATHMANDU: Doctors who were peacefully protesting the recent assault on doctors at Manipal Hospital in Pokhara continued their protest today.
They staged a protest at Maitighar Mandala, demanding that the Security of Health Workers and Health Organizations Act (First Amendment) 2022 be implemented immediately.
Sukamaya Dura, 57, died on Monday while receiving treatment at the Pokhara-based hospital. Following the incident, the Lumjung resident’s relatives brutally assaulted doctors and medical personnel.
While the accused are yet to be identified, police have taken one Binaya Gurung into police custody for further investigation.
Doctors at the Manipal Hospital have also announced the discontinuation of services at the hospital until the accused are brought to book.
Earlier on Sept 17, the Nepal Medical Association had halted services at all hospitals across the country, except for emergency care in protest against the attacks on doctors in Hetauda.
Similarly, traffic from Maitighar to Baneshwor was halted yesterday due to the movement of doctors.
They even demanded the resignations of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha and Health Minister Mohan Bahadur Basnet.
