KATHMANDU: Nepal Rastra Bank has introduced silver coins with the image of a cow.

This coin weighs 10 and 25 grams and is made of 999 pure silver.

The cost of 10 gram coins is 1600 rupees, while 25 gram coins cost 4,000 rupees.

Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari unveiled the coins during a brief ceremony at the Mint Division in Babar Mahal.

This is a medallion coin, not a circulation coin. Medallions are coins that are issued without a rate. During holidays such as Dashain Tihar, such coins are in high demand.

According to Rastra Bank’s Mint Division, minting would continue dependent on public demand.

The Rastra Bank Board of Directors approved the minting of the 10 gram and 25 gram medallion coins on the 19th Jestha 2080.
