KATHMANDU: Shishir Khanal, a former minister and member of parliament of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, has said that the tourism sector of Nepal is in crisis due to the conflict between the Nepal Tourism Board and the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation.

He made the remarks during a meeting of the International Relations and Tourism Committee on Friday at Singha Durbar.

He brought the committee’s attention to the fact that Nepal was unable to participate in tourism-related exhibitions because the tourist board was unable to give funds.

He stated that due to a shortage of funds, the committee should seriously consider Nepal’s participation in the tourism show scheduled for October.

He said ‘Tourism Board works to promote Nepal’s tourism. But since the Tourism Board could not allocate the budget until last week, it has been seen that Nepal is not participating in three or four major exhibitions related to tourism and Nepal may not be able to participate in some important exhibitions. That is because of the conflict between the board and the ministry. We have to look at it seriously.’

MP Khanal said that the committee should issue necessary instructions to the government in this regard.
