Ex-boyfriend killed Rewati and 9-month-old child

KATHMANDU: In Salyan, a half-burned body was discovered. According to the authorities, the bodies belong to the same house’s mother and daughter.

Karna Bahadur Basnet, 28, of Khanigaun, Siddhakumakh-2, was detained after confessing to being engaged in the murder, according to police. The police conducted a press conference and named Basnet as a accused in the murder.

The body of Rewati Thapa, 32, and her 9-month-old daughter Ritu were discovered in Triveni Rural Municipality-2 on Bhadra 30 (Sept 16).

It was confirmed that they were killed during the investigation. Chief of District Police Office Salyan, Naveen Karki said that the accused who killed the mother and daughter set fire to the room to show that they had died in  housefire in order to hide the evidence.

Basnet claimed that he fell in love with Revathi, who was found dead last Saturday, seven years ago and had sexual intercourse with her, and that he killed her as a reward after she married someone else while he was abroad. He was slain on the Bhadra 29 (Sept 15), according to authorities, after returning to Nepal from overseas on the Bhadra 26 (Sept 12).

Because the situation seemed suspicious, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CIB) was also assisting. In that residence lived a mother and her daughter.

Shuk Bahadur Thapa, Rwathi’s husband, was in neighboring India for business.

He returned home after learning of his wife and daughter’s murder.
