Wife tragically murdered amid dowry dispute

KATHMANDU: Nagendra Bhagat, 32, of Sunsari’s Inaruwa Municipality-3, was arrested on charge of murdering his wife under the guise of not bringing dowry.

Sunsari Superintendent of Police Bipin Regmi stated that Bhagat was arrested based on a complaint submitted by the deaceased family alleging that he murdered his wife Nikita Chaudhary on Saturday night.

Bhagat is accused of killing Chaudhary, a 23-year-old resident of Biratnagar Metropolitan City-17 Materuwa. During his marriage to Chaudhary 21 months ago, he brought Rs 32 lakh in cash, eight tolas of gold, 90 tolas of silver, and a motorcycle as dowry.

The deceased’s relatives claims that Chaudhary was murdered because he did not bring additional dowry.

Following the murder, Bhagat was arrested by the District Police Office, and the required investigation and action were initiated.

According to the police, Rakesh, the deceased’s brother, sought action for the murder of his sister while demanding additional dowry.

They are also claimed to have an 11-month-old kid.

The deceased’s family has requested that the police protect the minor son.
