KATHMANDU: Today, the Ganesh Chaturthi celebration is observed by worshiping Lord Ganesha, who has been granted the right of Agrapuja.
This festival is celebrated every year on the day of Bhadra Shukla Chaturthi. Lord Ganesha is said to have been born on Bhadra Shukla Chaturthi in Satya Yuga.
Ganesha’s birthday is commemorated with special puja in Ganesha temples around the country on this date, including Ashokbinayak, Chandrabinayak, Suryabinayak, Kamalbinayak, and Kamaladi Ganesh in the valley.
Ganesha, Shiva Parvati’s son, has the authority to be worshiped in any religious action. Prof Devmani Bhattarai, a theology scholar and member of the Nepal Panchang Adjudicatory Development Committee, reported that there is a traditional practice of fasting to Ganesha today by reciting the fast of Haritalika (Teej).
On the day of Bhadra Shukla Tritiya, devotees who wish for a happy married life and peace of mind should perform Ganesh Puja to pray that the day of Chaturthi will not be disturbed in their lives. Bhattarai, a theologian, said that there is a method to complete the fast of Haritalika (Teej) in the morning and then worship Ganesha in the afternoon and give arghya.
This festival, also known as Mangal Chaturthi, falls on Tuesday. The Newar community celebrates this festival in the name of Chatha. Prof. Srikrishna Adhikari, Chair of the committee, said that due to the change in dates, Ganesh Chaturthi i.e. Chatha festival and Rishi Panchami festival are also today. He said that the committee took this decision because Chaturthi Tithi falls in the sunrise period and Panchami Tithi falls in the midday period.
On this day, it is customary to give ‘Chushyamusya’ to children in the Newar community. On the occasion of this event, Ganesh Rath Yatra has also been held in the major cities, including the capital, since 2065.
This year’s Rath Yatra will also take place today. The National Assembly was created on this day in 2064. As a result, this day is also observed as the founding day of Dharmasabha.
