Services halt except for emergencies amid doctor’s beating protest

KATHMANDU: The doctors at Hetauda’s Sancho Hospital have protested, demanding that the perpetrators of the beating be held accountable.
They began a protest by closing non-emergency services in hospitals around the country.

Due to the medical association’s appeal, all health services in government and private institutions across the country were suspended on Sunday, with the exception of emergency services. Doctors who attended the rally stated the country should have a lawful state.

Speaking during the protest, Dr. Shesharaj Ghimire accused the government of turning a blind eye while beating up those who saved patients.
‘This country should have a legal state,’ he remarked. After the legislation has been established, it must be enforced. We go to treat the sick, but we are attacked. How to work when suffering in such pain. The assailants are free to roam. We began protesting as we were unable to work.’
Dr. Bikash Thapa and Dr. Prashant Bidari, specialists at Hetauda’s Sancho Hospital, were beaten up while on duty, and the hospital was closed on Sunday due to a union call.
