Human Trafficking: 1,600 rescued in five years

KATHMANDU: In the last five years, 1,679 people who were trafficked from various nations, including Nepal, have been rescued.

They were rescued between the fiscal years 2075/76 and 2079/80, according to Nepal Police’s Human Trafficking Investigation Bureau.

According to the bureau’s commander, Senior Superintendent of Police Jeevan Kumar Shrestha, 1,134 persons have been evacuated from police stations in various districts.

On the bureau’s initiative, 544 people have been rescued. 1,078 women and six hundred and five men were rescued in this way.

Senior Superintendent of Police Shrestha said that 214 people were rescued from those who were trafficked in the financial year 2078/79.

Similarly, in 2079/80, 336 persons were rescued.

According to him, trading in the guise of overseas employment is on the rise.
