KATHMANDU: Following the doctor’s beating, 78 doctors at Hetauda’s Sancho Hospital resigned in unison. They resigned in large numbers, demanding harsh punishment for those implicated in the beatings of doctors Bikash Thapa and Prashant Bidari.

In the hospital, protesting health professionals have halted all services save emergency services. Hetauda Hospital’s outpatient department is closed.

Doctor Hari Khadka informed that 78 doctors and health staff at Hetauda Hospital had resigned, citing a lack of a working environment for doctors in the hospital.

He said that until all those involved in the incident are prosecuted, Hetauda Hospital will be closed except for the emergency.

On Wednesday, a group of youngsters, including his family, attacked physicians Thapa and Bidari of Hetauda’s Sancho Hospital for incompetence in the care of 41-year-old Rajesh Pradhan of Hetauda-12, who died a month ago from dengue illness.

After constant pressure from the doctors, the police arrested the deceased’s wife Rama Pradhan, son Rohit Pradhan, daughter Ramita Pradhan and nephew Anup Pradhan who attacked the doctor on the basis of CCTV footage.
