CIB claims – 302 kg of gold was already smuggled before 60 kg of gold

KATHMANDU: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has said that the person who brought 60 kg of gold had already smuggled 302 kg of gold.
AIG Kiran Bajracharya of CIB reported that individuals involved in the smuggling had already smuggled 362 kg of gold.
“Aside from the 60 kg seized that day, it was discovered that 302 kg of gold was also smuggled in the name of Readylink Company,” he claimed.
The Nepal Police’s Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) has charged 50 persons with smuggling 60 kilograms of gold from Tribhuvan Airport.
According to Chief AIG Bajracharya, 32 of the offenders have been apprehended and 18 are still absconding.
Among those arrested are 23 Nepalese and 9 foreign nationals. There are 14 foreign nationals and 4 Nepalese nationals among those who absconded.
Amala Rokka Magar, one of the fugitives, is known to have connections with key Maoist leaders. Dawa Chhiring, Amala’s spouse, a Belgian national of Chinese heritage, has been arrested. According to the police, he appears to be the key suspect among those arrested thus far in this case.
This gold smuggling, according to AIG Bajracharya, is a worldwide organized crime. It involves Nepalis, Indians, and Chinese citizens.
Bajracharya further stated that a follow-up investigation will be carried out in this matter.
According to the report, persons involved in smuggling might be prosecuted for seven distinct offenses.
