KATHMANDU: A woman died of scrub typhus in Chitwan district.
The deceased is a 48-year-old woman from Nawalpur’s Kawasoti Municipality-17, according to the Health Office Chitwan.
According to Ram KC, the woman died today while receiving treatment at Chitwan Medical College.
According to him, she was admitted to the medical college on Sunday after being diagnosed with scrub typhus during treatment at a nearby hospital. Casey stated that he died in the intensive care unit while receiving treatment.
Scrub typhus was diagnosed in 67 patients who sought treatment in the district during the current fiscal year. According to KC, 67 out of 695 persons were tested for scrub typhus.
According to him, 25 of the sick are from Chitwan, with the others coming from other districts.
Scrub typhus infection was discovered in 528 people during a screening of 3,482 people last year, according to KC. “This disease is transmitted to humans by the bite of an insect that looks like a worm and infects mice,” he explained. ‘It is transmitted to people by the bacteria Orencia susugamusi, which is found in mites.’
This bacteria, according to KC, is more abundant in bushes, fields, forests, shrubs around buildings, and bushes. This sickness, he claims, does not pass from person to person.
Symptoms of scrub typhus
Scrub typhus causes symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, intense perspiration, red eyes, diarrhoea, and loss of function in the major body parts, according to the District Health Office KC’s Information Officer.
He claims that if infected people are not treated promptly, they would have breathing problems.
KC advised wearing long clothes when working in the fields or travelling to the forest and bush, using a mat when sitting on the meadow or grass, and sleeping on a bed or in a high place to avoid infection.
