KATHMANDU: Sri Lanka defeated Bangladesh by 21 runs in the Asia Cup Cricket Super Four match.

Sri Lanka won the first Super Four match. Bangladesh’s chances of reaching the final have diminished following their most recent setback.

Chasing the target of 258 runs presented by Sri Lanka, Bangladesh ended up with 236 runs.

Towhid Hridoy led the way with 82 runs, followed by Mushfiqur Rahim with 29 runs, Mehidy Hasan with 28 runs, and Mohammad Naeem with 21 runs. Other batsmen struggled to score runs.

Mahesh Theekshana, Dasun Shanaka, and Matheesha Pathirana all grabbed three wickets for Sri Lanka. Dunith Welles had one wicket remaining.

Sri Lanka batted first and scored 257 runs for the lost of 9 wickets.

Kusal Mendis scored 50 runs in the innings in which Sadeera Samarawickrama scored the most runs (93). Pathum Nissanka hit 40 runs, and Dimuth Karunaratne added 18. Dasun Shanaka, the captain, scored 24 runs.

Bangladesh’s Taskin Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud both grabbed three wickets, while Shoriful Islam took two.

In the Super Four encounter, Pakistan and Sri Lanka both had two points. Bangladesh has no points after losing both games.
