Public prosecutor’s debate in the case against Sandeep begins, little chance of a verdict today
Lawyers from Kathmandu's District Public Prosecutor's Office have begun the debate on behalf of the accused girl.

KATHMANDU: The trial of cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane in the rape case began today. The final hearing has begun in the courtroom of Kathmandu District Court Judge Sakuntala Karki.
Lawyers from Kathmandu’s District Public Prosecutor’s Office have begun the debate on behalf of the accused girl. Before lunch, a lawyer argued.
Suru Bahadur Wik represented the District Public Prosecutor. Other public prosecutors will argue this afternoon. The private lawyer will next argue on the complainant’s behalf.
Following the arguments on behalf of the offender, arguments will be heard on behalf of the defendant, Sandeep Lamichhane.
As there are so many lawyers on both sides of the dispute, a ruling on Thursday seems unlikely.
If there is no decision on Thursday, there is a possibility that the case will go to trial.
Despite the fact that there had been a half-day debate, the judge did not look at it. As a result, the case’s decision is being postponed.
Sandeep had previously been sentenced to prison for preliminary investigation by the district court. Sandeep, however, appealed the order to the Patan High Court. The High Court granted him bail and barred him from travelling abroad.
Both parties petitioned the Supreme Court to overturn the High Court’s decision. The Supreme Court found in Sandeep’s favor, lifting the restriction imposed on him from abroad.
After that, Sandeep has also been going abroad to play cricket. Sandeep, who had reached Pakistan and Sri Lanka to play the Asia Cup, returned home only on Wednesday.
