Brazil drop Antony over ex-girlfriend assault claim

Antony was excluded off the Brazilian national team after his ex-girlfriend accused him of threatening to kill her.
The Brazilian Football Federation told him that he has been removed from the team, with the conclusion that an inquiry into the charges against Antony is necessary.
Gabriela Cavallin, Antony’s ex-girlfriend of 23 years, submitted a police complaint alleging abuse from June 2022 until May 2023. She also accused him of assaulting her while she was expecting.
Antony has stated that the accusations leveled against him are unfounded. He replied that he had made a statement to the police and that he would be found innocent once the inquiry was over.
