Drunken van driver hits motorcycle in Basundhara: one dies, one serious

KATHMANDU: Dawa Dorje Sherpa, a motorcyclist, died after being hit by a van in Basundhara, Kathmandu.

A Sherpa from Sankhuwasabha Makalu Rural Municipality-1 died this morning when a van bearing Bagmati State 01-027 Ch 6747 collided with a motorcycle bearing State 3-02-006 Ch 6405 in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-3 Tilingatar last night.

Senior Superintendent of Police According to Rajendra Prasad Bhatta, spokesperson for the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Office, Sherpa, who was critically injured in the collision, died while being treated at Green City Hospital Basundhara.

Dolma Sherpa, 19, was hurt while riding behind the motorcycle. According to Bhatta, he is receiving treatment at Green City Hospital. The cops have detained the van’s driver.

Police said that the driver of the van, 25-year-old Jeetendra Majhi, a native of Bara and a resident of Machhapokhari, Kathmandu, had no documents and was found to be driving the vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
