KATHMANDU: Deepak Chand, 21, of Malikarjun Rural Municipality-7, and Aashish Bam, 18, of Duhu Rural Municipality-3, were arrested for brutally murdering an 83-year-old grandmother who refused to offer money.

Deepak and Aashish, who had planned to travel to India via Joljivi in Darchula on Bhadra 8 (Aug 25), were forced to return since they did not have a vehicle fee. Let’s ask my mother (grandmother) for money. “Let’s go to India with that money,” Chand said to Aashish and another companion. Deepak and Aashish went to the home of 83-year-old Bhagarathi Chand of Topali in Malikarjun Rural Municipality-7 to request money from her. 83-year-old Bhagarathi Chand is Deepak Chand’s grandmother.

Grandmother used to live alone at home. Deepak’s father has been out of touch for about 12 years, and his mother and sister lives in India. Deepak was staying in a hotel in Mahakali Municipality-4 Bagawagad with his family. Deepak and Aashish, who had gone to ask for money that day, brutally murdered Bhagarathi when they did not receive it.

He first took up a pair of scissors and hurled into the throat, then cut the throat with a sickle and repeatedly stabbed her in the stomach with a little knife, according to a police officer.

Although Bhagarathi was killed on the Bhadra 8 (Aug 25), the police learned of the crime on the evening of the Bhadra 10 (Aug 27). By that time, both had arrived in Palia from Pithoragarh Tanakpur in India via Pulghat. They left with 40,000 rupees and the gold she wore in her ears after killing Bhagarathi. They sold the gold jewelry they stole for 90,000. They were both inadvertently slain, and then they devised a complex scheme to conceal the incident.

It doesn’t take long for the authorities to figure out Deepak is engaged in the incident because the grandson fled after the murder. On Bhadra 8 (Aug 25), after the police discovered images of Aashish and Deepak on the Joljivi bridge, they launched an investigation into both of them. Locals on the Bhadra 8 (Aug 25) also told police that they observed another individual in addition to Deepak. This heightened the police’s suspicions.

The police begin their search for both of them. On Bhadra 12 (Aug 29), they were both detained at the Mahendranagar Bus Park in Kanchanpur’s Bhimdatta Municipality-4. In addition, the cops recovered 21,000 from both of them. After learning about the jewellery left in the statement, the police arrested both the individual who used to sell it and the person who bought it.

Within two minutes after receiving the information, the police apprehended both of them. The two people were released on Tuesday after the preliminary inquiry was completed.

They were apprehended after returning to Nepal via the Gaddachauki crossing from India with the intention of hiding in Kathmandu and using Indian SIM cards after turning off Nepali SIM cards.
