KATHMANDU: Shruti Tiwari, 18 years old Environment Activist from Dhanusha has been awarded the title of “Golchha Group presents Glocal Teen Hero Nepal 2023” amidst an Award ceremony at The Soaltee Kathmandu organized by Glocal Pvt. Ltd today. It is the 9th edition of the Glocal Teen Hero Award, which is the only national platform in Nepal to identify and honor outstanding teenagers whose creativity, commitment, experience, and strong leadership have helped them achieve success in life.

Announcing the winner, Asish Thakur, Chairman and Executive Director of Glocal Pvt. Ltd. said, “The most colorful version of the future can be seen in these young talents. Their initiation, passion and unique perspectives bring a breath of fresh air to our endeavors. Our motive as a platform for Teen is not just to identify raw potential but to provide a fertile and healthy ground for growth and networking along with guidance.”

Shruti was selected among the Top Six Finalists of the competition viz Aryan Sigdel (17 years, Educator and Activist); Atith Adhikari (17 years, Social Entrepreneur, Banke); Madhav Khanal (18 years, Writer, Lamjung); Nirajan Rimal (18 years, Science Enthusiast, Kathmandu); Ms. Preeti Pantha (18 years, Social Activist, Gulmi).

Shruti Tiwari is actively engaged in various social and environmental initiatives, demonstrating her dedication to creating positive change in society. As an advocate for children’s rights, she has raised awareness about child marriages and abuse, partnering with organizations like Ekikrit Child Club to intervene in cases and safeguard children’s futures. She has taken part in impactful campaigns like the “Plasticman Campaign,” reducing single-use plastic consumption.

Additionally, she has led a successful tree-planting endeavour with organizations like SAVE THE CHILDREN and WWF NEPAL, making a positive impact on the environment. Motivated over 20 Dalit and Janjati girls by sharing her personal journey of transformation. She also encouraged them to stand up for themselves and take active roles in society. This initiative took place on the International Day of the Girl Child. Promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment, she has also supported the LGBTQI+ community, engaging in discussions to address challenges and discrimination they face. Her efforts received international recognition, with BBC UK interviewing her for her outstanding work.

Working with Ekikrit Child Club, they have safeguarded vulnerable children and provided them with a safer environment to thrive. Additionally, celebrating festivals like Diwali and Raksha Bandhan with orphans has brought joy and a sense of belonging to these children, contributing to their emotional well-being. Her works have had a far-reaching positive impact on society, promoting environmental conservation, protecting children’s rights, raising climate change awareness, advocating for gender equality, and inspiring others to take part in creating a more sustainable and inclusive world. Through active engagement and collaboration with various organizations and communities, she has been able to make a meaningful difference by stopping the 12 child marriage and 3 Child abuse and leave a lasting impact on the lives of individuals and the society as a whole.

These teenagers were selected from a pool of 681 applications from across the nation, by our respected jury panel through an intense selection round for the impacts they have created in society. The applicants had demonstrated their skills and expertise, and made an impact in their society, in areas like education, social activism, entrepreneurship, technology, innovation, and health. This award recognizes and acknowledges the outstanding teen who has made a lasting contribution to society via innovative problem-solving.

Top Six Finalists were shortlisted for the final round of Golchha Group presents Glocal Teen Hero Nepal based on their achievements, initiations and contributions, and impact of work. Glocal’s 20 under 20 &the Finalists also attended the series of Self-Competency Workshops on different topics and got an opportunity to interact with Industry’s top leaders and corporate personalities to widen their knowledge.

The finalists were individually interviewed by the panel of judges comprising of Adarsh Avasthi, Country Director Nepal, The Coca-Cola Company, Carolin Spannuth Verma, UNHCR Representative to Nepal, Mr. Saurab Jyoti, Director of Jyoti Group, and Seema Golchha, Director of Golchha Group Pvt. Ltd and today, Tiwari was officially declared and awarded as Golchha Group presents Glocal Teen Hero Nepal 2023 amidst the awarding ceremony at The Soaltee Kathmandu.
