Various programs were organized and celebrated on the occasion of the 66th year of independence of the country on Thursday.

Thousands of Malaysians commemorated the 66th anniversary with patriotic songs and other festivities after midnight on Wednesday.

The parade celebration concluded on Thursday morning in Putrajaya’s administrative headquarters, which was overseen by King Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.

There were thousands of soldiers and citizens present, as well as the King of Malaysia, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, members of the Council of Ministers, and other officials. King Sultan told the people that unity is essential for the harmony and well-being of Southeast Asian countries.

The then-Union of Malaya got independence from British sovereignty on August 31, 1957.
