KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court is starting the final hearing from today on the petition filed by the CPN-UML against the ‘vote of confidence’ taken by the Chief Minister of Koshi State, Uddhav Thapa.

A bench has been set for the hearing of the petition filed against the vote of confidence from the MP chaired by Chief Minister Uddhav Thapa.

The case is scheduled to be heard in the joint bench of judges Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada and Sushmalata Mathema.

The UML went to the Supreme Court after Thapa announced that he had won the vote of confidence by taking the vote of Israel Mansuri, who was running the meeting. A full hearing on the case is being held today.

Former Chief Minister and leader of CPN-UML State Parliamentary Party Hikmat Karki filed a petition in the Supreme Court claiming that even the members who presided over the State Assembly meeting gave a vote of confidence to Chief Minister Thapa and that this action was against the constitution.

In the preliminary hearing on the writ, the bench of Judge Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada on Bhadra 7 (Aug 24) has issued an interim order not to take a long-term decision saying that the Koshi government did not follow the process of taking the vote of confidence.

As of this, after that order, the provincial government led by Thapa is in a state of impasse, unable to make any important decision.
