KATHMANDU: Deputy Speaker Srijana Danuwar arrived in Kathmandu after skipping the State Assembly meeting.

Deputy Speaker Danuwar arrived in Kathmandu after skipping the meeting to attend the Koshi State Chief Minister Uddhav Thapa vote of confidence.

She took a Yeti Airlines aircraft to Kathmandu in the morning. She has notified the State Assembly secretariat that she would be unable to attend today’s meeting. Chief Minister Thapa requested that the vote of confidence be held on Sunday at the State Assembly Secretariat, but Deputy Speaker Danuwar set the date for today instead.

Deputy Speaker Danuwar, who fixed the time of the meeting, also called a meeting of the Management Consultative Committee today.

The then Speaker of the Assembly, Baburam Gautam, had resigned, so the Deputy Speaker had to conduct the meeting of the Provincial Assembly. As the Deputy Speaker will be absent, it is seen that there will be confusion and crisis in the alliance.

Speaker Baburam Gautam resigned from the post on Shrawan 16. Thapa was thus chosen Chief Minister with the support of 47 State Assembly members from the coalition parties Congress, CPN (Maoist Centre), CPN Unified Socialist Party, and Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP).

There are 40 MPs from CPN-UML and 6 MPs from Rashtriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) in Koshi State Assembly. UML and RPP are together in the House. UML’s Malati Limbu, RPP’s Amar Bahadur Bista, Maoist’s Geeta Timsina and Congress’s Israel Mansuri are in the praesidium. Meanwhile, in today’s meeting, eight senior members of UML and RPP are on leave.

Now the MP from the ruling party may have to preside over the assembly. In that case, the state government does not get a vote of confidence. If the government does not get a vote of confidence, UML as the largest party will have a chance to form the government.
