Scorching summer threatens Italian agriculture: Estimated loss of 6 billion euros looms
Italy is experiencing its third hottest year on record.

AGENCY: According to Coldiretti, Italy’s biggest agricultural organisation, excessive heat will cost the country 6 billion euros (6.5 billion US dollars) this year.
They predict that this will be the worst year in Italian agricultural history.
According to the research, Italy has already seen 11 weather disasters this year. Hailstorms, typhoons, floods, and storms, as well as prolonged heat, are among them.
Italy is experiencing its third hottest year on record. The temperature this year is 0.76 degrees Celsius higher than the norm. The hottest month of the year was July, with temperatures 1.96 degrees Celsius above normal.
However, so far this year’s temperature is said to be lower than that of 2022.
The year 2022 will be the warmest on record in Italy. It has been the hottest year in Italy since 2014.
The agricultural sector is expected to suffer as a result of the hot weather. This year’s hot weather in Italy will reduce wheat production by 10%, grapes by 14%, pears by 63%, and honey by 70%.
Another heat wave is expected to begin on Monday in central and southern Italy.
Temperatures in those locations are expected to rise by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius compared to last week.
In several parts of central and southern Italy, high temperatures are anticipated to surpass 40 degrees Celsius in the following days.
