KATHMANDU: The nominations for the player of the year have been announced by UEFA, the governing body of European football.
Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne are on the list of three people.
Two of the three are from Manchester City, while Messi recently left PSG to join Inter Miami.
UEFA announced the nominations based on their performance in the European tournament in 2022/23.
The names of the three players who were finally nominated based on the votes of the coaches of the competing clubs, the coaches of the UEFA member countries, and the European sports journalists have been announced.
Messi, who played for France’s PSG in club football, is the captain of Argentina. He also won the World Cup last year.
Similarly, City’s Haaland and Bruena played a crucial role in the club’s treble triumph last season.
According to Uefa, the best player from the last three seasons will be named European Player of the Year at the Champions League group stage draw ceremony on August 31.
