KATHMANDU: Two people lost their lives in a landslide at a jade mine in Kachin state of northern Myanmar on Sunday.
More than 30 more persons were reported missing in the landslide by local authorities on Monday evening.
The landslide occurred around 3:00 p.m. local time on Sunday, according to a police official in Hapakant Township, which is located in the jade mine near Mana Village in Kachin State.
‘So far, the bodies of two persons have been recovered; others are still missing,’ stated the officer.
A total of eight persons have been hurt.
Large landslides occur in Kachin State, particularly in the Hapakant mining area.
Earlier in July 2020, a landslide in the Hapakant region killed 174 people and injured 54 others.
