KMC implements ban on open sale of milk to ensure public health & safety

KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) planned to prohibit the sale of open milk wrapped in plastic and tied with rubber.

Sunita Dangol, deputy mayor of KMC, stated that there should be more surveillance in open-air marketplaces selling food, beverages, vegetables, and fruits. She instructed the Market Management and Consumer Interest Protection Committee to develop an immediate plan to monitor market business activities in order to prevent the spread of infectious diseases spread by water during the rainy season.
‘Infection spreads quickly from daily consumption food and drinks such as fish, meat, water and milk. Its sources are meat shops, milk dairies, vegetable and fruit shops. She said, ‘Monitoring is also about alerting and giving opportunities for improvement. Those who do not improve even when given a chance should be brought under the scope of legal and administrative action.’
‘Putting open milk in plastic and wrapping it with rubber is against the standards,’ stated Chief Administrative Officer Basanta Adhikari during the meeting. It should be stopped right away.’
According to the metropolis, the work of buying vegetables and fruits on the cheap and selling them by the side of the road is equally hazardous to public health. Similarly, the city has begun collecting and destroying jars because water cannot be sold in crushed, dented, or shattered jars.
