KATHMANDU: On Sunday evening, the flood swept away 10 houses, a police station, and a bridge in Mustang’s Varagung Muktichhetra Rural Municipality-4 Kagbeni.
At 8 p.m., a flood from Kagkhola devastated Kagbeni, a sacred site that also serves as the rural municipality’s administrative headquarters.
The flood washed away 10 houses and hotels, a police station, a motorable bridge under construction on the Jomsom-Korala road, a pedestrian bridge, two vehicles, and three electricity poles, according to Rinjin Gurung, Chair of Varagung Muktichhetra Rural Municipality.
“After receiving information about the flooding caused by the damming of the Tirikhola above Kagbeni, the houses were evacuated so that no human loss occurred,” he stated. The flood has penetrated the settlement, causing havoc.’
Kagkhola, which flows from Muktinath, runs through the center of Kagbeni.
The electricity supply, on the other hand, has been cut off as a result of the downed power poles.
According to Chief District Officer Anup KC, the Nepal Army, Armed Police, Nepal Police, and people’s representatives are all involved in the rescue. However, due to the Pandakhola flood, security officers are finding it impossible to access Kagbeni from Jomsom.
The road to Upper Mustang via Kagbeni has been closed.
It has been raining continuously in Mustang for the past two days. The water level in other Mustang rivers has also grown as a result of the rain.
The meteorological station at Jomsom Airport in Mustang has measured 25.8 mm of rain in the last 24 hours.
