KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress has objected to the arrest of party MP Sunil Sharma. Congress leaders say that it is illegal to arrest and misbehave in ordinary cases.

Speaking to the media after the party’s parliamentary party meeting, MP Shyam Ghimire stated that arresting a politician under regular circumstances is illegal and unparliamentary.

He accused MP Sharma of detaining him in retaliation.

He said, ‘What was the reason for such an arrest while the parliament was in session? There were other paths. He could have been taken for a statement. What was the reason to be kept in prison? It is our understanding that this vindictiveness worked. The Home Minister had to answer this in Parliament and in public.’

According to Nepali Congress Chief Whip Ramesh Lekhak, the MPs believe that arresting the party’s members is unjust.

‘This topic has been highlighted in an offensive and serious manner today,’ he stated. We took it seriously. Let’s talk about it further. And we’ll make our decision tomorrow.’
