Paralluelo’s extra time strike puts Spain into World Cup semi-finals

KATHMANDU: Spain advanced to the semi-finals of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand after defeating the Netherlands.

Spain won the first quarter-final encounter in Wellington on Friday morning, 2-1.

The game proceeded to overtime after the regular time was knotted 1-1.

Salma Paralluelo of Spain scored in the 111th minute to give Spain the victory.

Spain has already reached the World Cup semi-finals for the first time.

The Netherlands, the previous edition’s runners-up, returned home from the last eight.
