KATHMANDU: Ten police officers, including a police assistant inspector, have been arrested in connection with the unexplained death of two inmates at Sankhuwasabha prison.

ASI Laxmi Chaudhary, Constable Rajkumar Shrestha, Assistant Constable Amrit Bahadur Karki, Jawans Sanoj Sodmi, MukeshBK, Pawan Kumar Mahato, Nusan Rai, Manish Rai, Damansingh Rai and Suman Gurung, who were assigned to guard the prison, have been detained, according to the state police office.
Binod Tolangi, 19, of Madi Municipality-5, and Aakash Balami, 28, of Nuwakot Kakani Rural Municipality-7, who were apprehended while attempting to escape from prison on Tuesday night, died of beating inside the prison.
A four-member delegation led by Superintendent of Police Rishiram Kandel from the Koshi State Police Office (Biratnagar) has reached in Khandbari (Sankhuwasabha) to investigate the unexplained death of two convicts inside the security fence.
The committee is made up of Police Inspector Jitesh Dahal, Police Deputy Inspector Rudra Bahadur Khadka, and Constable Tirtha Bhattarai.
