Fernando Villavicencio, who was campaigning for the upcoming presidential election, was assassinated on Wednesday evening.
According to the press, he organized an election rally in Quito city, and during that rally, a suspect shot him dead.
The local media confirmed the news by quoting Interior Minister Juan Zapata.
Villavicencio, a 59-year-old journalist, was one of eight candidates in the August 20 presidential election.
