KATHMANDU: The House of Representatives meeting has been postponed till Friday due to the largest opposition party, the CPN-UML.

During the meeting on Wednesday, UML MPs surrounded the rostrum of the Parliament, demanding the formation of a high-level commission to probe the smuggling of one quintal of gold.

Following that, Speaker Dev Raj Ghimire adjourned the meeting until 1 p.m. on Friday.

UML MP Surya Bahadur Thapa, speaking on behalf of the UML MPs who stood up and protested at the beginning of the meeting before the adjournment, said that they will continue their protest saying that the Home Minister’s speech on Tuesday did not say that an inquiry committee would be formed.

When MP Thapa was speaking, MPs from the ruling party also stood up and protested. Although the Speaker repeatedly requested to assist in the conduct of the meeting, MP Thapa ended his speech in the middle of the interruption when the MPs did not sit. Soon after, the UML MPs surrounded the well and chanted slogans.

On Wednesday, the UML parliamentarians allowed the parliament to be informed to hear the home minister’s reply about the investigation into gold smuggling.

However, they interrupted Parliament again saying that the Home Minister remained silent about the formation of a high-level commission of inquiry and did not give any answer.
