AFC Cup Football: Beating Bhutan’s club Machhindra enters second round (photos)
Machhindra Club defeated Paro FC Club by 3-2 in the match held today at Dasharath Stadium in Tripureshwor and entered the second stage of the competition.
KATHMANDU: In the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) AFC Cup football tournament, Machhindra Club of Nepal defeated Paro FC Club of Bhutan and reached the second stage of the competition.
Machhindra Club defeated Paro FC Club by 3-2 in the match held today at Dasharath Stadium in Tripureshwor and entered the second stage of the competition.
Machhindra, who became the runner-up of Shahid Smarak A Division League, got the opportunity to play in the AFC Cup. Machhindra, who became the runner-up, got a chance with Church Boys Club, which became the champion in the league, due to the lack of an AFC club license.
Paro FC took the first lead in the match. In the seventh minute of the match, Kazuo Homma scored a goal and took the early lead. After Paro FC scored a goal, Machhindra returned the goal not even five minutes later. Machindra’s player Bimal Gharti Magar scored a goal in the 12th minute of the game to equalize the game with one goal each. Bimal scored a beautiful goal through a header with the help of Ayush Ghalan on a short corner pass by Arik Bista.
Likewise, in the 15th minute of the game, Ayush Ghalan doubled Machhindra’s lead by scoring a goal. Then, in the 39th minute of the game, Afeez Olawale, a foreign player, doubled Machhindra’s lead by scoring a goal. He scored through Omolaja Karim’s pass.
Machhindra, who had a 3-1 lead until the first half of the game, conceded a goal in the second half of the game. Paro FC’s Evans Asante added a goal in the 71st minute of the game.
With this victory, Machhindra will now play against India’s Mohun Bagan club in the second round of the AFC Cup. The match will be held on Shrawan 31 (Aug 16). The winner of this match will play against the winner between Bangladesh’s Dhaka Abhani Club and Maldives’ Club Eagles on Bhadra 5 (Aug 22).
Machhindra played in the preliminary stage of the AFC Cup last year as well. In which Machhindra was defeated at home against Sri Lankan club Blue Star.
