Balen in action to say that ‘drinking water for health should not become a cause of disease’

KATHMANDU: Major errors and neglect have been discovered in the jar water marketed in Kathmandu Valley.

On Sunday, serious neglect and errors were discovered in such water businesses during monitoring done by concerned agencies such as the Agriculture and Food Department, Food Technology Department, and Quality Control Department of Kathmandu Metropolitan City.

According to the city, the water gathered during monitoring has been sent for quality testing, and more details will be revealed following the testing.

Balendra Sah, the mayor of the metropolis, stated that the collected samples have been sent to the laboratory for testing and that based on the results, an approach to the bottled water company will be devised. Waterborne disease infection rates are high during the dry season.

Instead of drinking water from the distribution system, city inhabitants buy it, drink it, and use it in their daily lives by putting their trust in the water from the jar.

The water jar purchased by paying money for purity has no label, the manufacture date is not stated, the jar is dirty and smashed, and the quality of the water in it must be questioned. This water is consumed directly in homes, hotels, and restaurants.

It is used to wash vegetables and fruits for drinking and eating raw,” Balen wrote on the social network Facebook. He asked the consumers to buy bottled water only after confirming the purity of the water. He has also said that serious attention has been drawn to the lack of attention paid to the quality of the water that is distributed in jars by the businessmen who are in the business of drinking water commercially.
